Asparagus setaceus
Family - Liliaceae
Although asparagus species grown as houseplants sometimes are called
"asparagus ferns", they are totally unrelated to ferns family but are the
relatives of lilies.
Asparagus setaceus has wiry stems with very delicate greens that gives it common
name "maiden-hair-fern".
When grown to mature plant Asparagus setaceus starts to climb and can shoot the
stems up to 4-5 feet long.
Best grown in the bright light, asparagus will survive in the low light but
should be never placed under direct sun - delicate green branchlets will burn
badly.
Water your asparagus plant as often as needed to keep the soil moist but not
soggy. If you let the soil to dry out - you might loose big chunk of foloage -
it will dry out and get brown. In such event - just cut off damaged part of
plant.
For potting - just tropical soil mix would be fine.
Propagate Asparagus setaceus by dividing the clump when the pot becomes
overcrowded.
