Nematanthus or Goldfish plant
Family - Gesneriaceae
This plant has fleshy green little leaves and cute orange or bright coral
flowers that remind you of a gold fish. If you put it into hanging
basket - you will get nicely trailing bushy plant.
Relatively easy to care for nematanthus still has it's demands.
First of all - it likes very warm conditions - about 70-75F. So, if you
live in the place with cold winter - don't put nematanthus on the windowsill,
it's too cold.
Second demand is - humidity, mist it often with room temperatured water or put
on tray with water and pebbles.
Thirdly - nematanthus likes bright light and will appreciate place where it
gets at least couple hours of direct preferrably morning sunlight.
Pot it into the soil that is sold for violets and don't take too large pot
because nematanthus likes to bloom when it is potbound. Keep the soil moist at
all times but not soggy.
On the top of all - nematanthus kind of prone to the mealybugs and spider
mites.
If all of the above demands are fullfilled - nematanthus will reward you with
year-round flowers that will make you room bright and cheerfull.
