Pothos or Epipremnum pinnatum
Family - Araceae
Pothos also known as Epipremnum pinnatum is the most undemanding houseplant that is also very decorative and fast growing.
It is generally used for hanging baskets as pothos can easily develop long
shoots up to 10 m. The most commonly known variety of Epipremnum is the one with
golden streaks on the green leaves.
While pothos will happily grow in any lighting conditions from bright to totally
shady, if left in too dark corner - you will notice that golden pattern
will disappear from the leaves, leaves will become much smaller in size and
there will be larger gaps in between the leaves on the stems.
If plant becomes to leggy you can cut it back any time and stick the cuttings
into the same pot to make the growth bushier. That's how you propagate the
pothos - by stem cuttings. You can root it in the water or just plant it right
to the pot and keep the soil damp.
For potting - the all-purpose soil or tropical mix can be used.
Pothos should be watered often enough to keep the soil always moist, but don't
let the water to stand in the pot. If pothos will feel too damp - it might drop
the leaves and they will never grow back, so you will be left with unattractive
bare stems.
